For the first time, the public heard details Tuesday of the winning development group’s plans to make Danville’s casino dreams finally come true. (casino) location in Illinois, unlike any. The first preference for the location to build the Danville casino is the area in and around Southgate Industrial Park. June 2019 Danville, Illinois is one of six cities selected for a new casino under the Rebuild Illinois Law enacted last June.

The Danville City Council Tuesday night approved a new casino operating partner, new casino site and new concept plan. Danville Development LLC officials gave a presentation of the new location for the casino – 204 Eastgate Drive. The site is on the north side of Interstate 74 and west side of Lynch Road.

This plan is a downsizing from the earlier Danville casino plan. Officials says the plan is part of the new reality concerning the economy and the pandemic. Jimmy Wilmot is vice president of gaming with the new operating partner. He says the proposal is made with current conditions in mind.

The new plan does not call for a hotel to be built in the first Phase. Wilmot says that was a chief reason the 204 Eastgate Drive site was chosen — there are many hotels in the area.

The developer also has promised to pay for the new sewer going into the area. Plans also call for a new crossroad to connect the casino to Lynch road. Phase one of the project will include 500 slot machines, 10 gaming tables, and a craps table. It will have a food court and a steakhouse.

The organizers plan to submit the application to the Illinois Gaming Board in September or October. The IGB thought the application from the original developers was insufficient. Danville Development LLC is confident their proposal will be approved. If the IGB approves quickly, construction of the Phase 1 could start this spring with completion by the end of 2021. Phase 2 and 3 could be done in about 6 years, depending on how well the casino does. To get to Phase 3, they will have to build offsite and are considering various locations. They would not abandon the Phase 1 casino, but use it for office space, warehousing, training of new staff, and testing of new machines and products, according to Mayor Rickey Williams.

The Danville Zoning Commission also will act on changes needed for the new facility next month.
